Birth preparation: a 4-week mindfulness programme
A structured programme combining breathwork, visualisation, and CBT for birth anxiety.

Birth anxiety affects up to 1 in 6 pregnant people significantly enough to impact daily life. This 4-week programme draws on hypnobirthing, mindfulness-based childbirth preparation, and CBT.
Week 1: Understanding your fear response
The fear-tension-pain cycle: when we're afraid, muscles tense, which increases pain, which increases fear. Breaking this cycle is the foundation of the programme.
Week 2: Breathing for labour
Slow breathing (5 counts in, 5 counts out) during contractions keeps your oxygen levels stable and activates the parasympathetic nervous system. Practice 10 minutes daily this week.
Week 3: Visualisation
Mental rehearsal of a positive birth has measurable effects on anxiety and self-efficacy. Spend 15 minutes each day imagining your birth going well — not perfectly, but well enough.
Week 4: Your birth preferences
Writing a birth plan isn't about controlling outcomes — it's about knowing your values and communicating them clearly to your care team. We'll help you write one that's realistic and empowering.
