Deleting your Maternally account

You can close your account at any time, and you do not have to give a reason. This page explains exactly what happens when you do.

How to ask

In the app, open Profile, scroll to the bottom and choose Delete account. You will be shown exactly what happens before anything is confirmed. If you cannot get into the app, email support@maternally.care from the address your account uses — we reply to that same address, so nobody can close your account without access to your inbox.

What happens straight away

You are signed out on every device, and the app on your phone is emptied — anyone who picks it up finds nothing. Notifications stop, so nothing further can appear on your lock screen.

You have 30 days to change your mind

Your data is held for 30 days and then destroyed. During that time you can sign in again with your email and password to restore everything. Only your password can do this — having your phone is not enough, because the phone no longer holds anything.

What is erased

Everything you wrote and everything about you: your conversations with the AI companion, your mood entries and notes, your assessment results, your care plan, your name, phone number and email address.

What we keep, and why

Two things, and we would rather say so than claim we delete everything. A record that an account existed and was deleted, holding no personal details — data protection law requires us to be able to show a deletion actually happened. And, if a crisis was ever escalated to a clinician, that escalation: it is a care record involving someone else’s professional duty, and the right to erasure has a legal exemption for exactly this.
